History of the Aspen
The Aspen's Greek name is 'Aspis' meaning shield and for the Celts its lightweight wood was very much favoured for making shields. These shields were more than just physical barriers between the warrior and enemy. It was thought they had magical qualities to safeguard the bearer from psychic as well as physical harm.
